The revision mammoplasty is a procedure act to the removal and replacement of a breast prosthesis previously inserted.
The most frequent reason for undergoing a revision mammoplasty surgery is the capsular contracture: when inserting a breast implant our organism reacts to the presence of a foreign body forming a tissue which is called capsule which over time can change its thickness until sometimes it narrow and compress the prosthesis creating a distorted shape of the breast.
Other reasons that often lead to having to re-intervene are a breast implant that is displaced, the need for change of a breast implant (size and type), deformity of the double profile or a combination of these problems. The purpose of revision surgery is to create a more harmonious and youthful breast contour.
The surgery is generally performed using the existing scar.
